‘HSE Academic Environment Helped Me to Make a Soft Transition to the New Era of Computer Vision’
This academic year, HSE University launched the first online master's programme ‘Master of Computer Vision’ supervised by Professor Andrey Savchenko. Alexander Rassadin, graduate of the Faculty of Informatics, Mathematics, and Computer Science (HSE Nizhny Novgorod) and active participant of many CV projects, is delivering the course ‘Deep Learning for Computer Vision’ as part of the curriculum for this new programme. Alexander told us how he once wrote an algorithm for robot movement, the moment he realized what his dream job was and why analyzing sports games is more interesting than predicting a tsunami.

HSE University Appears in Twice as Many Top 100 Subject Rankings as Last Year
The publication of the latest Times Higher Education subject rankings in the Arts and Humanities concludes the annual cycle of the three main ranking agencies: THE, QS, and ARWU. Since last year, HSE University has managed to double the number of top 100 subject rankings it appears in, growing from 6 to 12.
Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation Announces Winners of Two Innovation Competitions
The winners of the KIVO Education Innovation Competition and the Innovator’s Voice all-Russia contest of youth social and educational innovations have been announced. Both competitions were organized by HSE University: KIVO 2021 in partnership with the Rybakov Foundation with support from the Agency for Strategic Initiatives, and Innovator’s Voice with support from the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs.

HSE University Now Appears in Six US News Global Subject Rankings
In the recently published US News Best Global Universities rankings, HSE University now appears in six subject rankings—an increase from four in 2020. The two latest additions are in Arts and Humanities (ranked 207th) and Psychiatry/Psychology (ranked 374th). The university once again placed highly in Mathematics (85th), maintaining its position among the top 100 universities worldwide in the subject and ranking second among Russian institutions.

‘Expeditions Give Students a Chance to Experience Field Work’
The student research expedition of the Graduate School of Urbanism has concluded its field work in the Sovetsko-Gavansky region. The data collected will form the basis of a booklet about the main features of the region’s urban space. Other outcomes of the expedition include a preprint of a research publication and the creation a systematized database with metadata on collection methodology.

HSE University has entered the top 100 universities in the Times Higher Education Rankings for Law and Social Sciences. For the first time, the university is also among the top 150 in the Education ranking and the top 200 in Business & Economics.
HSE University Strengthens Its Leading Position in Russian Rating of Entrepreneurial Universities
According to the rating by the Expert Analytical Centre, HSE University has become one of the best entrepreneurial universities in Russia, entering the top three and sharing 1st–3rd place with MIPT and St. Petersburg State University. The final rating included 43 Russian universities. The rating methodology is focused on startups founded by university graduates, the number of graduates to do so, and the volume of investment in such projects.
