On January 23, HSE University's Eastern Perspective Expert Club will hold its first event—a business session dedicated to setting up and developing a successful business in India. Leading global experts have described the country as ‘a market of a billion chances.’ Speakers will present five key steps in market research, the three most effective strategies, and the geography of the most promising industries and opportunities.

The Expert Club was established by HSE University experts to discuss tools, trends, and insights into Russia's cooperation with the countries of Southeast Asia, the Near and Middle East, and North Africa. The event will feature discussions on scientific research, issues of interstate cooperation, joint projects in the humanitarian sphere, and other areas. The participants and speakers will include experts from HSE University as well as representatives of major think tanks and business structures in Russia and Asia.

Natalia Guseva

According to Natalia Guseva, Professor at the HSE University Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs and head of the ‘Business with the East’ series of continuing professional development programmes, the Expert Club events will open up new qualitative opportunities for both students of HSE University and entrepreneurs working with the countries of the Middle East, North Africa, and the Indo-Pacific region. The university currently offers three such programmes. The flagship five-month programme ‘Eastern Perspective: Strategy and Tactics of Building a Business’ combines the experience and practices of entering new markets in the developed countries of the Global East. The intensive three-month programme ‘Eastern Perspective: Fundamentals of Building a Business’ is designed to provide practical knowledge on business development and launching international projects in various economic sectors with the countries of the Global East. The three-week programme ‘Eastern Perspective: Practice of Building a Business in India’ focuses on the knowledge, strategies, and practices of building a successful business in India.

‘The speakers who are confirmed to take part in the club sessions, webinars, conferences, and other events are top class. These are people who advise presidents of large transnational corporations; not only do they have practical experience in doing business in Eastern countries, but they also have access to the highest administrative offices in these countries. The club events will be dedicated to business, international cooperation in such fields as science and education, and exchange of opinions on various issues of technological development,’ Natalia Guseva said.

It is no coincidence that a business session dedicated to launching and developing business in India was the first Eastern Perspective event. India is now the world's fastest-growing G20 economy, with an annual GDP increase of more than 7%, a growing consumer market, and high rates of technological progress. This opens up unique opportunities for Russian companies in industries such as IT, manufacturing, energy, agriculture, and many others, Natalia Guseva pointed out.

‘The business session will include reports and presentations by Russian and Indian experts with many years of successful experience in the Indian market representing the world's largest corporations. The participants will get a highly practical overview of the most important knowledge and expertise on the industry specialisation of Indian states, on the tools of communication with business partners, and on the specifics of marketing and commercial activities in the country,’ Professor emphasised.

Attendees can expect to gain a condensed but valuable set of knowledge on why India is one of the most promising countries in which to start or develop a business. In India today, the share of industrial products in the structure of imports reaches 50%, the annual growth of the beauty industry is 76%, the share of fintech in the volume of funding raised among startups is 40%, and the share of e-commerce is 20%.

The high-quality and unique content provided by the speakers will be useful to company owners and managers, managers in marketing, foreign trade, logistics, and other areas, employees of international departments of federal and regional authorities, and representatives of the expert community.

Speakers who have worked with India for many years on behalf of the world's largest companies will share successful business practices and personal insights, as well as answer the most challenging questions during the Q&A sessions.

The business session ‘The Market of a Billion Chances. How to Start a Successful Business in India’ will be held on January 23 at 7 pm in a combined online/offline format.
