Learning Against Boredom
Eva Guerrero Forteza was born in Mallorca, Spain, where her mother, father and sister still live. Eva has a curious mind and a ‘wish from place to place to roam’, as the great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin wrote. After earning a degree in physical therapy, she worked in Spain, New York, and then in France. But, Eva notes, she has always dreamt of learning Russian and living in Russia. That’s why she first came to St. Petersburg to study Russian, and, in August 2019, enrolled in HSE’s Master’s programme ‘Socioeconomic and Political Development of Modern Asia’ in Moscow.
‘The Professors Are Not Strictly Academic—They Are Also Practicing Professionals’
For students interested in pursuing careers in international law or economic integration, HSE University’s Faculty of Law offers the Master’s Programme ‘Law of International Trade, Finance and Economic Integration’. Previously taught in both Russian and English, the programme is now taught in English only. Miloud Lacheheb (Algeria) is a second-year student in the ‘Applied Statistics with Network Analysis’ Master’s Programme. After earning his bachelor’s in management in Algeria and a masters’ degree in Economics in Malaysia, he decided to earn a second master’s degree and study data analysis and statistics at HSE University in Moscow.
‘The Programme Gives Us Very Practical Knowledge’
Ziong Chung Hieu, from Vietnam, is the first year student of the ‘Economics and Politics in Asia’ Double Degree BA Programme which offers students a unique opportunity to pursue two degrees, one from HSE and one from Kyung Hee University. He originally enrolled in HSE’s Mathematics programme last year but soon realized that mathematics was not really close to his heart. Now, after switching majors, he is happy with his choice.
Students from over 20 Countries Begin Courses in HSE Online Master’s Programme
Classes in the Master of Data Science programme have recently begun. This is the first Master’s programme in Russia taught entirely online on Coursera global educational platform. All classes are conducted in English.

‘I Like That the Professors Are Invested in Our Learning’
The master’s programme in Governance of Science, Technology, and Innovation offered by HSE ISSEK aims to equip students with skills that are in short supply in the private and public sectors. Courses and internship work give students a global perspective on science, technology, and innovation in addition to showing them how to be effective managers and conduct evidence-based assessment. Students also have the option of pursuing a double degree with a partner university in Europe and Asia. HSE Master’s Programme Prepares Students for Careers in Business and Policymaking in Asia
Set to launch in the fall of 2020, HSE’s new English-taught master’s programme ‘Economics, Politics, and Business in Asia’ is now accepting applications. Students of the programme will spend their first and fourth semesters at HSE University in Moscow and their second and third semesters at Kyung Hee University in South Korea. Programme graduates will receive a diploma from each partner university. Professor Denis Shcherbakov, programme Academic Supervisor, explains what students can expect in the new programme.
