HSE University Teams Win Gold and Three Bronzes in ICPC Semifinals
In December, the Northern Eurasia Regional Contests (NERC)—the semifinal of the ICPC international programming contest—took place. This year’s competition featured around 300 teams comprising 900 participants from Russia and other CIS countries. The contest took place simultaneously in St Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Astana, and Kutaisi. The majority of teams—a total of 152—took part in the competition at St Petersburg’s MTS Live Hall venue.
‘A Creative Event that Makes Us Happier’
Decemberfest is an annual festival for first-year students, teachers, and applicants of the HSE School of Foreign Languages. The school currently offers courses in nine foreign languages: German, Spanish, French, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Dutch, Turkish, and Hebrew.
HSE University Becomes Winner of International Eventiada Awards
Gleb Gorshenin, student of the School of Communication of the HSE Faculty of Creative Industries, was named Student of the Year. The ‘Notes of a Communicat’ adaptation guide for first-year students of the School of Communication was recognised as the best youth advertising project. And the opening of the HSE Online campus received an award for the best project for a young target audience.

On November 15, HSE University's Cultural Centre held a classical guitar concert featuring the world-renowned guitarist Artyom Dervoed. The event was organised by the HSE Centre of Music Projects, with Kristina Agaronyan, the centre's manager and graduate of the Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatory, hosting the evening.
HSE Holds Table Tennis Championship among International Students
Mixed-sex teams representing eight university faculties took part in the HSE Winter Tennis Cup, an interfaculty table tennis championship for international students. The team of the Faculty of Mathematics won the competition. The tournament was organised with the support of the Department of Internationalisation and the Department of Physical Training.
Foreign Language Specialists Share Insights from Teaching and Research Experience
On November 29–30, HSE University hosted the Third International Online Conference 'Languages, Education, Development' (HSE LED Conference). The conference was attended by more than a thousand participants, including researchers and teachers, methodologists, language education experts, administrators, and business representatives. They discussed the challenges of teaching and learning languages in today's world and presented their research findings.
‘SAWalk: Step into Art’ Gathers a Record Number of Participants
The Student Activist Group at HSE University in Perm has held the large-scale ‘SAWalk: Step into Art’ event. This time, the quest walk was dedicated to Perm art: painting, literature, cinema, theatre, and street art. More than 200 students and 40 teams took part in it.
Photography Week at the HSE Art and Design School: From Documentary to Fashion Photography
Photography Week took place on November 20–25 at the HSE Art and Design School. As part of the festival, the HSE ART GALLERY presented works by students of the Photography track from recent years, while CREATIVE HUB hosted a conference titled ‘Photography: More than Art.’
HSE University Holds HSE Sber ML Hack
On November 17-19, The HSE Faculty of Computer Science, SBER and cloud technology provider Cloud.ru organised HSE Sber ML Hack, a hackathon based around machine learning. More than 350 undergraduate and graduate students from 54 leading Russian universities took part in the competition.
The ‘Grow with HSE University!’ Forum: ‘A Platform for Communication and Reinvigorating Ideas’
In late October, the ‘Grow with HSE University!’ forum was held in Moscow. The forum aimed at encouraging an exchange of best academic practices and cultivating cooperation between the University and various schools. Teachers and administrators from 76 regions of Russia and 16 countries took part. Over 3,500 people signed up for the forum, and even more people joined the events online. The plenary discussion alone was watched online by over 15,000 people.
